Dr. Michael Benoit is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo and Associate Director of the Waterloo Centre for Automotive Research (WatCAR), one of Canada's largest automotive research clusters. An internationally recognized researcher in advanced manufacturing, Michael leads multidisciplinary collaborations with academic, industrial, and government partners to develop innovative manufacturing technologies that enhance performance, productivity, and sustainability.

His research spans metal additive manufacturing, welding and joining, process optimization, and the circular economy for critical materials. Through his leadership at WatCAR, he has helped build strategic partnerships that accelerate technology translation and strengthen Canada's advanced manufacturing ecosystem. A dedicated mentor and educator, Michael is committed to developing future engineering leaders while advancing research that delivers lasting scientific, economic, and societal impact.
