Cynthia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and the Director of the electrophysiology laboratory and inherited retinal diseases clinic and the pediatric retina service at the Université de Montréal. She is currently Vice President of the Canadian Retina Society and also chairs the Early Career section of the Society. With her colleague Dr. Flavio Rezende, she successfully implanted the first “Bionic Eye” retinal prosthesis in the province of Quebec. She is currently one of only three surgeons in Canada to perform this surgery. She has been recognized for her work both as a leader in medicine and as a rising star in ophthalmology by the Young Physician Leaders Program at the World Health Summit. Last year, she was named Young Professional of the Year by the Young Chamber of Commerce of Montreal and was also chosen as the prestigious Personality of the week by La Presse-Radio Canada twice within the last five years.
