Dr Foteini Agrafioti is the Chief Science Officer at RBC and Head of RBC Research. She is responsible for RBC’s intellectual property portfolio in artificial intelligence and oversees all R&D activities in the Toronto and Edmonton offices. Prior to that, Foteini was the CIO of Architech, where she led Research and Innovation. In 2011 she founded and served as CTO at Nymi, a biometrics security company and maker of the Nymi wristband. The Nymi wristband is the commercialization of Foteini’s doctoral research between 2006 and 2010. Foteini is an inventor of HeartID, the first-ever biometric technology to authenticate users based on their unique cardiac rhythms. She is a TED speaker and serves on the editorial review boards of several scientific journals. She was named “Inventor of the Year” in 2012 at the University of Toronto where she received the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
