Scott Thomson assumed the role of President of Scotiabank on December 1, 2022 and became President and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank on February 1, 2023. Scott has been a member of the Scotiabank Board of Directors since 2016.
Prior to joining Scotiabank, Scott was the President and CEO of Finning International Inc., the world’s largest dealer of Caterpillar equipment and engines across diverse industries in the Americas and Europe.
Scott’s career has spanned a wide variety of industries including financial services, telecommunications, energy, and industrial services. Prior to joining Finning in 2013, Scott was Chief Financial Officer of Talisman Energy Inc. He also held several executive positions with Bell Canada Enterprises, including Executive Vice President, Corporate Development & Planning, and Vice President, Head of Mergers & Acquisitions. During his time at Bell, he led the team responsible for auctioning BCE in the largest privatization ever negotiated.
Scott began his career in financial services as part of the Investment Banking group at RBC Dominion Securities and as Vice President, Mergers and Strategic Advisory Department at Goldman Sachs & Co.
He is currently a member of the board of directors of Scotiabank, Finning International Inc., and The Jim Pattison Group. He is also a former board member of Interfor Corporation. He is also a recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in economics and political science from Queen’s University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago.
